On 9 October 2018 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania (Parliament) (hereinafter referred to as the LR Seimas) appointed Mantas Martišius, the current vice-chairman of the Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania (hereinafter referred to as the RTCL) as the chairman of the RTCL.
The Resolution of the LR Seimas “On the Appointment of Mantas Martišius Chairman of the Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania” will come into force upon its publication in the Register of Legal Acts.
Mantas Martišius was appointed to the RTCL by the decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania on 21 January 2013 and for the second term on 11 January 2017. The LR Seimas appointed him as the vice-chairman of the RTCL on 28 March 2017.
According to Paragraph 10 of Article 47 of the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public, the LR Seimas, on the joint recommendation of the Committee on Culture, appoints and dismisses chairman and vice-chairman of the RTCL from the members of the RTCL for a term of four years.
According to the mentioned Law, the RTCL is comprised of 11 members. Currently the RTCL members are: Ričardas Slapšys, Dalia Teišerskytė, Edmundas Vaitekūnas (delegated by the LR Seimas), Laurynas Jonavicius, Mantas Martišius (delegated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania), Antanas Jonynas, Algis Matulionis, Dainius Radzevičius (delegated by the Lithuanian Association of Artists), Vidmantas Mačiulis delegated by the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union), Liudvika Pociūnienė (delegated Lithuanian Society of Journalists) and Vincentas Vobolevičius (delegated to the Bishops’ Conference of the Catholic Church of Lithuania).
The members of the RTCL are appointed for a four-year term and may not serve more than for two consecutive terms.
